Vinterdyr / Arctic Animals

This post is going to be in English, as I made this card for a couple of international challenges. I wanted to make a card with a Scandinavian looking winter scene.

Strictly aren't all of these guys animals you could run into here in Scandinavia. Mr. Penguin and the racoon are maybe on a holiday, or they have run away from the local zoo. Anyway, these lovely animals from Hero Arts are perfect for a Scandinavian Christmas scene.

The colour layering trees from Hero Arts have been amongst my favourites since I got my hands on them recently. I wanted to make a background with trees for the Christmas scene, and exchanged the autumn leaves with winter colours.

First I stamped the animals in MFT natural hybrid ink and masked them with masking paper. Then I stamped the trees in Hero Arts dye ink and Distress Ink.

I wanted to make a sky with northern lights, to create an Arctic atmosphere. I used Distress ink and a sponge.
The snow on the tree is embossed with Versamark ink and Hero Arts white embossing powder.
I added a bit of gray colour on the ground for shading.

I must say, making masks for the animals was a bit fiddly, the animals are quite small! For the same reason the details were impossible to see afterwards when I took the masks off, but that's often the problem with no-line colouring. In the end I had to draw the animals, using the stamp sheet pictures as a guide.
The animals are coloured with Zig Clean Color Real Brush markers.

I thought it would be a fun detail to let the squirrel put the star on the tree. The star is painted with Finetec gold and the ornaments are Nuvo Drops.
The sentiment is embossed with WOW Silver Pearl embossing powder and adhered with foam tape.

  4. wow, that is a lot of masking, but definitely worth the effort; the wintry scene is fabulous and i imagine it would be easy for the squirrel to climb up to the top of the tree to place the star. thank you so much for playing along with us at penny black and more!
